...preparation and responsibility...

National Curriculum

This Senior School prepares pupils for the OCR, Edexcel and AQA Board GCSE examinations. In Year 9 pupils study 13 subjects and work towards the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 SATS which are taken in May. Pupils then choose various options to study 8 or 9 GCSE subjects at Key Stage 4. In addition all pupils follow courses in RS, Citizenship, PSHE and Games and work towards a qualification in ICT.

Coursework

Some GCSE syllabuses include coursework, much of which involves practical investigation or fieldwork. Physics, Chemistry and Biology can be taken as separate sciences but we also offer the Combined Science (Dual Award); a wide range of Art and Design activities are available and the extensive games facilities offer a choice of sports for GCSE PE. Computer software is available for Art and Design and for the practical components of the Music course. Recently the curriculum has been expanded to include Business Studies, Drama, Spanish, D&T, Classical Civilisation and Media Studies.

Post 16

The responsibility given to the Senior pupils increases and Year 11 provides Prefects, House Captains and Games Captains. Pupils help with the organisation and running of school functions and social occasions and are expected to behave as young adults. When pupils leave us they are ready to face their next challenge with confidence and maturity.

The most common choices for further education are the Sixth Form College in Worcester, Worcester Technical College or the colleges of Further Education in Evesham, Stratford or Cheltenham. For pupils who prefer to stay in a school environment, there is a large selection of local state and independent secondary schools from which to choose.
